Poor mental health can affect us all – each year, a quarter of people in England alone experience a mental health problem1. And recent global events from the pandemic to climate crisis, have further impacted peoples’ mental wellbeing.

77%

of business leaders experienced symptoms of poor mental health - Executive Wellbeing Index 2021

Bupa UK’s Workplace Wellbeing Census in March 20212 found that a fifth of workers reported poor overall wellbeing during the pandemic, while Bupa Global’s 2021 Executive Wellbeing Index revealed that that 77%3 of business leaders experienced symptoms of poor mental health during the previous 18 months.

“Mental health issues can affect everyone”, explains Dr Robin Clark, Medical Director for Bupa Global & UK. “Early diagnosis and treatment improve outcomes. Our extended cover, which includes ongoing support for mental health conditions, ensures that more people than ever before can access the right help”.

Our health plans

At Bupa Global, we believe that mental health and wellbeing are just as important as physical health. To support this, both annual and monetary limits across our plans for in-patient and day-patient mental health treatment are the same as for physical health treatment.

This means that our mental health cover doesn’t include specific mental health waiting periods - we want you to be able to access your benefits as and when you need them. We also do not include lifetime limits for mental health, as we know that mental health conditions can be complex and can reoccur. And our out-patient benefits are the same or no less than that of consultations for physical conditions.

Additional preventive health and wellbeing services

Our mental health benefits are supplemented by a range of preventive health and wellbeing products and services.

If you’re a Bupa Global customer and have a health concern, the Global Virtual Care (GVC) service provides confidential access to a global network of doctors by telephone or video call, with virtual appointments available day and night, in multiple languages - enabling you to speak to a doctor at a time that suits you.

Additionally, Bupa Global customers also have access to our Healthline service, which gives access to general medical information (mental and physical) as well as providing advice from health professionals and referrals for a second medical opinion.

If you have access to Bupa Global through your employer – you will be able to access Bupa LifeWorks, an Employee Assistance Programme. This service entitles eligible policyholders’ access to trained advisors 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, via phone or online to talk through any work, life, or personal concerns.
