Bupa Global travel insurance
Cover for sports and adventure holidays
Bupa Global is well-known for our international private medical insurance for every day healthcare needs, but did you know you can access our global medical network and in-house service by taking out a single trip or annual multi-trip travel insurance policy?
Travel insurance that includes cover for adventure holidays and sports
If you are planning an adventure holiday –solo, with friends or family, for fun or for charity– it’s important to get your travel insurance from the medical experts. Our single trip and annual multi-trip travel insurance policies automatically include cover for emergencies that could result from taking part in sports and adventure activities.
So go kite-surfing if you decide to on your summer holiday, or even test your endurance with multiple marathons around the world, knowing that you have Bupa Global Travel’s medical expertise and in-house emergency response team at hand, 24/7, wherever you may be.
Our policies are simple and straightforward, with no excess / deductible or co-insurance to pay on medical claims, and no overall limit on eligible medical expenses. We offer non-medical and trip cancellation cover too, all serviced by our in-house teams.
What sports and activities are covered by Bupa Global Travel insurance?
Bupa Global Travel’s insurance covers you all over the world for a huge range of sports and activities. Along with common sports, such as tennis, rugby and golf, our cover includes many potentially more adventurous sports and activities, including:
- Scuba diving
- Mountain biking
- Hiking and trekking (although we do not cover expeditions or trekking in Antarctica, the North Pole or Greenland)
- Bungee jumping
What activities are not covered?
If we do not explicitly exclude an activity in our product guide, it is likely to be covered, but if it’s new or not very well-known – or if you’re just not sure – please check with us. For the record, the following activities are explicitly excluded from your policy, so we cannot cover any emergency medical treatment that results from:
- Base jumping
- Wingsuit flying
- Speed flying
- Rock-climbing or mountaineering that requires specialised climbing equipment
- Motorsport shows, races or competitions, including any training
- Expeditions, mountaineering and trekking in Antarctica, the North Pole and Greenland
What travel insurance options are available and how do I choose?
Your travel insurance policy structure is simple: the core cover is called Medical, and it draws on our medical expertise and experience, so if you want to protect yourself and your loved ones for medical emergencies resulting from acute unexpected illness or injury, this is ideal.
You can then add Non-Medical and Trip cancellation cover if you wish. These are all serviced by our in-house teams.
It’s that simple. Buy Medical Cover, Medical + Non-Medical Cover, or Medical + Non-Medical + Trip Cancellation Cover.

Single trip vs annual multi-trip travel insurance
A single trip travel insurance policy covers a trip of a defined duration, while annual multi-trip policies can cover all your trips of up to one month each – personal and business, planned or last-minute – for one year. Either way, you usually don’t need to tell us where you are going, but please contact us if you are travelling to high risk areas, such as Iraq or Afghanistan, so we can discuss the cover options available.
If you’re not sure whether single trip or annual multi-trip insurance is more suitable to you, here’s a quick overview of the differences:
- Single Trip Travel Insurance policy
If you don’t travel often, you may prefer to buy a single trip policy. Single trip travel insurance can cover you for one work or personal trip that lasts from 1 to 364 days.
- Annual Multi-trip Travel Insurance policy
If you travel even a few times in a year, it makes sense to get a quote for an annual multi-trip travel insurance policy. This will cover you for as many trips (up to a month each) as you can fit into one year: for work or personal travel, worldwide – and we cover a wide range of activities while you are away. If one of your trips does extend beyond a month, you can extend your insurance online by paying a daily premium.
Aside from being convenient, annual multi-trip policies can be less expensive when compared to the cost of multiple single trip policies over a year. Please check the policy benefits, limits and exclusions before you buy, to make sure our cover is right for all your needs.
Still not sure?
You may find it easier to decide if you get a quote for both options. Keep in mind that we give you a 5% discount at checkout if you buy online and kids under 2 are covered at no additional cost on your policy.
And if you happen to be a Bupa Global International Private Medical Insurance customer, check your policy benefits before travelling to see if they include cover for the country you are going to and other benefits, such as repatriation and evacuation. If you still require medical travel insurance, or you need the additional cover from our add-ons, such as theft, lost luggage and trip cancellation, for example, you can enjoy another 10% off simply by entering your policy number at checkout.
